Wimbledon Open Tennis 2017 Events : Wimbledon tennis tournament is the third Grand Slam of the year. Wimbledon is the only grand slam played on grass. It is a very traditional tournament. The tournament has five main events. There are 128 tennis players who take part every year in this championship.

A total of 128 players of both men and women will play in Wimbledon 2017. Players are ranked by international ranking process. There will be 8 wild card entries this year. There are five sets in each match of singles and doubles. Other tournaments has only three sets.

Five Invitational events:

  • Gentlemens Invitation Doubles tournament.
  • Ladies Invitation Doubles tournament.
  • Gentlemens Wheelchair Doubles tournament.
  • Ladies Wheelchair Doubles tournament.
  • Senior Gentlemens tournament.

The players are seeded on the basis of merits in Wimbledon. The winner of Gentlemen’s singles gets a silver gilt trophy. The current champion is Andy Murray. It was his 2nd Wimbledon title. The champion of Ladies’ singles receives a silver trophy. The current winner of Ladies’ singles is Serena Williams. This was her 7th Wimbledon title.

The winner of doubles events are awarded with a silver cup. The runner ups get silver plates. The award is generally given by president of All England Tennis club. Players from same country can participate in doubles. The current champions are Pierre-Hugues Herbert (France) & Nicolas Mahut (France) .
